The original subject was "1927 John Deere D from the Temecula tractor races".

I raced in the Great Temecula Tractor Race for many years and yes i remember your tractor. but most of the reply's here didn't get the concept correct. what the race was two competitors would set up side by side at the start, with the drop of the green flag they would take off onto a 1/3 mile dirt oval with a 100 foot long and some times two feet deep mud pit on the center of the front straight. the idea was to complete two laps ahead of your competitor after going through the mud pit twice.
a lot of the tractors ( maybe not so much a tractor) were high horse power machine that would enter the mud pit at or above 60MPH and sent a wall of mud flying everywhere. it was a ton of fun. I am not sure if the races are still going. it was always a fight to get the city to let us race. after the balloon and wine festival came to be the tractor races were just to hill billy for the local government

Interesting:
In France we do real tractor races, with modified utility tractors, as well as combine races. Not to be misinterpreted with demolition derby that we do not have), because combines or tractor can be reused many times / years.

That is usually done with tractor expos to attract more people at the shows. Some people preserve, some not so much, but in fact there are way more old wore out combines than potential buyers.

Looks more like a 4x4 mud run for street legal and no longer street legal and purpose built 4x4 Jeeps and trucks.

Perhaps the city got tired of being duped into thinking it would be some sort of slow antique tractor event.
