Wheel/Axle Wedges - Lubricants

I moved the wheels on a 4450. What do you use to keep the wedges from rusting to the Wheel and Axle? Oil, Grease, Anti-Seize, other?

Have used a piece of wax paper between the wedge and hub. This was on a 3020 that we moved the wheels out in the fall, and back in in the spring for a mounted 237 picker.

I'd suggest nothing on the axle and wedge interface. They can come loose after moving them easy enough. Much as loosening a rusted one is no fun, one that won't stay tight is no fun either.

I used anti sieze on mine about 15 years ago and torqued them with a five foot cheater pipe and a 300 pound fat boy on the end pulling as hard as I could and never had a problem

At a service school I was at many years ago I was told not to use any lube on the wedges because it makes it possible to draw the wedge far enough to break the center casting.

WOW that was at least 1500 ft lbs. ! That would surly break the thinner castings on a 2 cyl. 4020 have thicker ones though.

I didn't want it coming loose but at the same time I wanted it as tight as possible I gobbed about a can of anti sieze on the wedges the inner bore of the hub and the axle

I overtorqued a bolt on a turbo mount once, and that was when I learned you are supposed to reduce the torque spec by 25% when using anti-seize.

Thanks for the comments. I put some anti-seize between the wedge and the wheel, just an "X". I did not position the wheels on the axle yet. Hmmmmm, I am thinking a small amount of grease or anti-seize, maybe just a strip.

I did anti-seize my 4250 last spring before plowing. I found after 3 tightening's of the bolts all was good.
