Do i need a new hood or would this be fixable ?

You might consider a <a href="https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=john+deere+b+hood+patch&_sacat=0">hood patch</a>.

Take a look at the photos below of the hood patch on "John B" our 43B.

Hope this helps.

It looks like a patch should cover that. When I restored my "A", I could have had the hood
repaired, but I preferred the patch, so that I could get at the muffler bolts, in the
future. Glad I did.

A hood patch was a genuine JD item. We got one for a 47 A when a muffler rotted off when we were filling trench silos. The hole was cut to get the muffler off before we were deaf by the drill and chisel
method. Couple of weeks later got the patch from a JD dealer. While it's correct and practical, elegant it is not. But it's what I'd do again.

Just trimming it up square and leaving it alone will look better than a screwed on hood patch.
But if you want it to look like original you can weld in a repair section either from another hood from the air cleaner hole or make your own. Someone may even make a weld in repair section ?

The Bolton hood patches look pretty awful. Several companies make weld in patches that make the hood look like new. The inside of the patch is even chamfered which in the hands of a good bodyman, makes it undetectable from an original hood

I used a weld in patch. I found that they aren't stamped perfectly so you will need to work them a little to get the proper fit, but all in all I was happy with it.

I repaired the hood on the POS 1944 John Deere A like CJET repaired his. The hook looks Like new when done.
I also was critized for repairing so nice, the remarks I herd what are you going to do when you need a new Muffler?
I just told them I will swear a little & remove the entire hood & replace it like your suppose to. It makes all the
difference in a restored machine..

I have an uncut "B" gas hood for sale . If you interested contact me by email or call 573 535 8952 . Thanks, Tom

When my Uncle sold me his JD A it needed a muffler. I didn't want to cut the hood, so trimed new muffler on one side, and slipped it on. Now
has only 3 holes, but nice and tight. Dave
