730 gas question

ok I got my 730 gas running. Was leaking oil behind flywheel. so I replace the slinger seal, put it back together started it and ran for 40 minutes and stated leaking again. What could be going on. I also blew back threw drain hole. everything looked good., could oil pressure be to high or some of the trash in crankcase be breaking loose. What would you do? at the end of my rope. Thank you I might be selling it if I don't figure this one out.

Everything seems ok no end play it?s at speck but I just read you must center the slinger housing with as gonna try that tomorrow and change oil to see how much stuff is in it Tractor sit forever but runs good rings are still stuck but it?s getting better all the time

I had this problem on an A. Replaced the seal so many times I could do it in my sleep and it would always start leaking once the engine got warm. Out of desperation, I threw in some STP and that stopped it. Not the fix I wanted but it worked. As time went on, and because I don't put a ton of hours on this tractor I thought I was loosing gas in the tank due to evaporation, but I found my gas shut off valve was leaking by and I was dumping gas into the crank through the carb. This thinned down the oil and when that got warm, it was thin enough to get by the seal.

It has a tube on the valve cover and pressure comes out it, were would one be on the crank case? gonna take it back down today. might try with taking the filler cap off. and gonna change oil to see how dirty it is. also gonna try to ck oil pressure.

If the rings are stuck, it could be building up excessive pressure in the crankcase and pushing the oil out. Maybe change the oil and filter with some cheap oil,and add a can of sea foam and try to run it under a heavy load for a couple of hours. Drop the oil out, change the filter again, fill it with 15/40 and try it again. Make sure the carb isn't leaking down when sitting, and check/replace the diaphragm in the sediment bowl,so it doesn't leak gas into the engine

I think the situation is hopeless if the rings are stuck. I have had to remove rings from the grooves with a hammer and small chisel. No amount of snake oil would have helped.

I think I'm going to sell it I've already been out a ton, there is no place to get off. It seems.I've had carb done, replaced gas tank , had sheet metal done, rebuilt starter, replaced the seal behind flywheel. Radiator is good and replaced water pump. Would make someone a good project to finish. Thanks for all your help. might list on ebay. A gas tank alone is a lot of money.

Why stop now? The 730 gas is a real nice tractor an relatively easy to work on. All old tractors need work and most will need a ring and valve job. A good half day will take the head off and the pistons out. The machine shop will check the valve guides and springs, check for warpage, cracks and grind the valves. Another day and you will have it reassembled and running. This is all easier and more fun with a friend helping you. Go for it!

do you think a ring job will stop the blow by pressure that's making it leak behind the flywheel from pressure, and if I do this work I might as well replace the other side seal as well behind the first reduction gear cover, maybe I will pull it out and wait on warm wheather and start on it again, thanks.

Too tight end play will wipe out the seal.
