JD MT Gas Cap

May be a silly question but what is the correct gas cap for a 1950 MT? I see both short ones and tall ones available online. They probably all fit but I would rather have whatever one is factory correct.

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]FUEL TANK AND FUEL FILTER[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note the fuel cap (Key 5) is flat.

Take a look at the fuel cap on "Rusty" one of our 1951 Model MTs.

Hope this helps.

Case-IH still, to my knowledge, offers free tall fuel tank caps (blsck) for tractors as old as the C, H, M Farmall series. Their tanks got so hot that they could erupt out the filler neck when the cap was removed. Somehow the taller ones are vented differently and are anti-erupt. You can only imagine the hazard that presented to the one who took the cap off. I don't recall Deere ever having that problem with 2-cylinder tractors. There was a lot of air space between the engine and tank on the Waterloo-built models and on the Dubuques, the tank was behind the engine and there was also a heat shield.
