I went to look at a 1954 60 today. With the engine running
anywhere under half throttle, it backfires through the exhaust.
They're fairly constant at between 10 and 15 seconds
apart but then it may not backfire for a minute or two.
Above half throttle it doesn't backfire and has good power at
all speeds comparing it to my JD 50.
Seller says he just had the valves ground and replaced the
manifold. He doesn't know if it was backfiring before having the
valves ground. He couldn't run it with the cracked manifold.
Thoughts on what it could be or a good place to start looking?
