?s replacing axles seals in 42 A

When replacing the axle seals in the 42 A, will I be required to replace the bearing cones and cups even if they are good? I have done this on a couple of similar vintage Bs and I had to weld the inner cups to get them to come out of the axle housing, so I replaced all the bearings to have them run in together. Any tips for replacing the seals, bearings would be appreciated as I see the felt seals/assy are a little different than my 45 and 43 Bs. Also I plan to use National brand seals. Is this one of those places it has room for two where the original is wider?

Again hoping to make this a simple weekend project to enable the tractor to be used quickly. It has to earn its keep as it won't just be a parade queen.

thanks.

There is no need to remove the cups unless they are bad. Pry the seal out with a bar that will fit leave that spacer that is behind the seal in place it guides the axel so you don,t hurt the seal

you mean come in from the wheel end of the axle housing with a bar to hit the seal to knock it and the cup out to replace the seal and reuse the bearing set?

How do you do it? I tried that on my Bs and only way to knock the cup out to get the seal replaced was to weld on the cup to shrink it and then it fell out. Of course that added significant cost due to the need for new bearing cones and cups.

no there is no need to take the race out i have done a lot of them i have many diff. bars that i use you can call me at 605 270 1844 and will tell you how
