Gathering wood with the deere

Hey everyone
I?m always jealous of all the pictures everyone posts of doing wood every year
I finally got around to taking some pictures for myself
I used an old 420 u to pull tops out of the bush and then stack the logs on an old Jd wagon frame that was modified with rails on the side to hold them in place
I use my trusty old 3020 gas power shift and 148 loader
It ain?t pretty but starts every time and is great in the cold weather
The cab is a little noisy but keeps me out of the wind when driving back and forth
I do have many other newer cab tractors but this 3020 seems to get used the most near the bush
A little scratch from branches doesn?t seem to bother it or myself
My little helper also likes to pose in the pix when he isn?t out chasing some wildlife

Nice equipment I?m thinking of putting a cab on ?My 3020 and fixing up the real nice with lots of sound gard material and sealing it up nice to keep the dirt out probably no ac but a good heater

i was thinking the same thing with this tractor and cab, it doesnt have air conditioning but all the heater is there, just not hooked up.
the previous owner told me he never got around to hooking up the water lines.
told me you wont need it. trust me you will get hot enough in there with the heat coming back through the steering column.
well he was right. i dont have that big of laneway at another farm so i just leave this tractor and snow blower over there.
at -20 i will plug in the tractor and by the time the head is warm, i get it running and backed out of the shed. By the time i start blowing snow
it dont take long and the snow will melt on the windows that is falling down. it gets warm enough in there that i will usually take the coat off
i would hate to know how hot it would get if i was plowing or cultivating.
i havent got any wipers hooked up but that is the first job because of the snow melt blocking the view on the front and back window with no heater.
i had a 2510 with no cab before this 3020 and would never want to go back blowing snow or heading to the bush with no cab.
good luck sometimes there is still cabs out there for sale. grab one.

im located in mid western ontario canada
we get 4 seasons a year and so far still enjoying them.
although we usually get to much snow to head to the bush in mid janruary.
we got a real big thaw and most snow is gone. i like it this way frozen up
lets me get work done when i got time through the winter months.

I do the exact same thing every winter with a JD 70, JD 2030 w/ loader and forks, and a JD 2510 diesel. Skid the big logs out with a three point as you depict and load the limbs on wagon gear. Have a guy come each spring to saw lumber with his portable band saw, and the limbs get cut into firewood. Good winter work, and I haven't bought lumber in over 15 years to speak of. Also make beams and posts, and have restored many of our older buildings. Really enjoyed your photos.

Burley tractor at one time had several cabs for a 4020 for 500$ each there's another guy that has some cabs but he wants 1500$ I really think with some work these cabs could be made pretty nice it gets awful cold, around here in the late fall early spring and I think a cab would be nice

it is a factory side exhaust manifold but someone has put a pipe thread elbow on it to get the exhaust under the tractor.
this is a common thing because the factory muffler for side exhaust is so expensive. it is to go right on the manifold and tip down
then the tail pipe after that.
im not up for factory original in the bush. it works good the way it is and misses the low hanging branches
thanks for noticing.

Looks like you're doing a good job....years ago I found that a pond scope really worked good moving logs...simply put the scoop under the end of the log and chain....worked super great on 3 point made a very safer lift....best Chuck
