John Deere 2510 Gas Sycro - Wrist pin came through block

So the wrist pin on the #1 cylinder came through the block, started looking at some options. Buy a used block and try to rebuild the gas motor ? Also been looking for a complete diesel 202 or 219 to install? Or maybe its time to part it out? Just curious what others would do in my shoes? Thanks..

Assuming that the rest of the tractor is not whipped I would re-power with a 239 which would be a little more easy to come across as they were more recently produced. In any event you have a number of re-power options. If you have gotten along with the gas engine well to this point then a used block and rebuild is another way to go.

There is a core engine on ebay in Iowa for $250 but it is pickup only. I would go the repower route with a 219 or 239 diesel. You will be happy with the out come of the project. Years ago when the 202 in my 2510 needed overhauled we up graded to a 219. For smaller jobs my 2510 is the tractor I use the most. Tom

A 219, 239, 276.... they are all options.

That style of engine was made until I think 2004, so there are plenty out there to pick from.

There is a 2510 block with clutch and rear plate dirt cheap on fleebay, in Iowa.

What kind of shape is tractor in and what options
does it have? Does it have any sentimental value?
Those would be things to consider as to wether to
fix or sell. A running diesel will run about $2500.

Where are you located? My email is open, shoot me
an email as there are a few other options and
questions. I converted a 67 gas to diesel, wasn't too
bad of a job, air cleaner system is not factory,
everything else was bolt in.

I have not pulled the head off, just the oil pan.

I like the 239 option myself. You weren't kidding about the wrist pin! When you said wrist pin I thought rod, but
photo proved otherwise.

If that hole is below where the liners sit or at least if the liner o-ring sealing area of the block is ok then maybe a pro welder could put a patch over that hole ? Just a thought. Finding another engine would likely be the best and lowest cost option. Did any combines use an engine similar to that ? what did 45, 3300 & 4400 use for engines ?

If you don't mind me asking where are you finding a running diesel engine for $2,500. I have 2 gas 2510's and have been playing with the idea of converting one to diesel. I haven't done much looking but the ones I've found are 4-5 thousand range. I was just thinking about a future project someday.

I don't know about the late 45's but the 4400 came with the 6 cylinder 329. Not impossible to install but would need to do something about the hood and frame rails among other things. 3300 would be best but all the parts yard diesel units have been picked clean for obvious reasons. If he wanted to go with a gas there are probably many out there to choose from.

I don't know where you are in New York but you could try K & J surplus in Lansing, NY (Ithaca) @ 607-379-5185. He might have what you need to build another gas engine if that is your choice. You will probably have to get casting numbers and so forth as he does pretty much combines.

1975 3300 combines used a 219 diesel engine, I don't know what size the gas engine was.

Were there structural and non-structural versions of those Dubuque four cylinder engine blocks?

Chad, How far away are you? I have repowered many of these 2510 and 20 series tractors. They were always my pet model. I have put 202, 219, 239 and 276 engines in these tractors. The 276 is the most difficult as it is taller and #4 rod will hit oil pan if not clearanced all due to its longer stroke. The 219 or 239 diesel is your best/easist choice, nothing wrong with either of them if in shape. I got the makings of a 239 and a 219. The 219 had a hard water event and needs a block. If you decide you want to sell this tractor let me know. [email protected]. Best of luck with whatever you decide. DW

Yes another place to try in New York is McFadden salvage Sharon springs New York or green spring tractor in pennsylvania
