Looking at buying a 567 JD round baler. Is it possible to swith it over to a 540 PTO? What else is
there to look at? They seem like a well liked baler.

Yes a 1000 rpm model can be changed to 540 rpm by flipping gearbox over. I can't remember correctly but one may need a longer hex shaft on LH side for 540 rpm. 567 balers are good balers.

Turn the gear box 90 degrees then flip it over, change the fill and check plugs to the top, change the side shaft to the 540 one, some say you have to change the whole pto shaft to 540. They are good balers, but like all, many things need to be checked out, which diamond are the main belts on?

I haven't physically looked at it yet. It has both net wrap, and twine. New Chains and new Tires. About 13000 bales on it.

It's easier to go to 540 than to 1000.
The shaft is shorter on the low speed
setup. When switching to 540 you can
simply cut off the excess and perhaps
have to drill one hole. Last year I
changed my 566 to 1000 and had to buy
the longer shaft. My center pivot
mower uses 1000 and it fit best to
standardize. I don't see much reason
anymore to stay at 540. Everything else
I own with any size is 1000 rpm.

I want to switch to 540 so I don't have to change out my PTO on the tractor each time. My mower is 540.
