Lift capacity of early 2440?

I've always been curious as to the value of the published vertical lift capacity "specs." of 3-points, since every 3-point implement that I am familiar with extends rearward, making the vertical lift "spec" meaningless, except as a comparison between little and bigger tractors.

WHAT am I missing here?

Bob most Nebraska test three point lift capacities are at 24 inch behind the lift arms. This is how most older tractors where rated. Now With the companies crowing about engine horse power rather than PTO HP they may be cheating on the lift capacity too.

The OECD test includes both lift at the lower link ends, and lift 24 inches rearward. The test includes multiple points across the entire range of lift.

Nebraska did not adopt that standard until 2011, so tractors older than that were not tested for hitch lift.

In the sales literature, there is a wide range of reported values. Some manufacturers use the maximum force at the lowest point of the hitch (kind of like a loader breakout rating... much higher than full lift capacity).
