The hydraulic system left something to be desired and can be expensive to repair. Not really intended to log a lot of hours per year doing heavy tillage. A farmer about 6 miles away as the crow flies had one and it did well as a planting and haying tractor. The auction was over ten years ago and it was pretty nice looking after having since new in 1985.

We sold 2940s and 2950s new. 2950s were better machines with a lot of bugs worked out. Only issue we had with some early ones were steel transmission pump tubes rattling loose. We had to update quite a few. Other then that - up to that time - one of the best Dubuque tractors Deere ever made (in my opinion).

we had one for about 10 years. nice size utility tractor. good for odd jobs and haymaking. people complain about the hydraulics, but I had no problem with it. 359 engine is solid and one of the best starting engines around, still have a 3255 with a dt359 and a backhoe with a 359. always start up quick. one weakness I did have was electrical, there is a big plug in the firewall that the center spade feeds electric into the cab. had to clean it a couple times and bend it a little to make good contact.

If your looking for a tillage tractor keep going. They were great general purpose tractors but need to be maintained correctly. If the hydraulics start to have problems then STOP using it and repair them ASAP. The main issues were worn brakes or brake valves sticking and then brake particles getting spread thru the entire system. This causes an expensive repair. The dry clutch needs to be used with some common sense or you will need to replace it soon. Great engines that run smooth. IF it is an MFWD the front axles where pretty rugged. The majority of them had the ZF styled axles and they held up well.

The value on them for good average tractors would be open station 2WD in the $11-13K range, Cab 2wd in the mid teens and Cab MFWD in the upper teens and low twenties IF really sharp.

Just make sure that the hydraulics are in good working order. Repairs in the hydraulics can easily be in the $5-10K range if they have been abused. The labor involved in cleaning out the system when they have crap in them is the major cost.
