Removing Bars on 858a hay rake

Attempting to remove the tine bars on an old 858a hay rake with the vertical stud teeth so that I can drill horizontal holes for the modern rubber teeth. Each end of the bar is held on with a 7/8" castle nut. On the left side of the rake, I was able to remove the castle nut and the bar will come right off. On the right side, however, the castle nut and spindle/stud simply turn together. I removed a grease cover from the bearing on the right hand bar assembly and I cannot figure out what if anything I can put a wrench on so that I have resistance when trying to turn off the old castle nut and remove the bar. I can't imagine you would have to tap the bearing out with the bar and I am hesitant to go whacking at the spindle? Has anyone attempted this and if so, what obvious quirk am I missing? Thanks,

Pete

There is a breakdown of the parts in the JD parts book, pages 4 and 5, online. Shows a ball bearing on both ends. Like the other poster said, you might have to cut the nut off as I doubt that an impact would spin it off. We have owned an 858a since the early 1960's and have never had to replace one of those bearings so have no experience with removing the bars.

Try an impact wrench while prying between the bar and wheel.
You might also heat the nut if that doesn't work.

Worked on it more yesterday. Got the nut off by putting a pipe wrench on part of the bearing cover, came right off. Haven't removed the bar yet as I got side tracked taking off teeth (which are a real nuisance to get off being that they are held onto the bar by a one-sided bolt with the other being embedded in rubber). Hoping to consolidate the old teeth onto two bars and drill the other two for the new style. Thanks for the help.
