I have a 1965 JD300 loader backhoe with a 3 cyl gas engine. What engine oil should I use in the engine? The manual states 30w or 10w30 but the api specs they call far that type of oil is obsolate.

Wouldn't recommend +50.
Unless I'm mistaken it's synthetic.
just use a regular 15w40.

What these guys are saying is use a good quality diesel oil. Several brands available...Mystik, Shell Rotella, Castrol, Deere, Case/IH, etc

A diesel rated motor oil still has the anti-wear additives that most modern automotive oils lack these days(zinc/phosphorus/zddp). Older engines gas or diesel that use sliding cam followers should probably use a diesel rated engine oil.
