JD 650 loader help

A fellow at work stopped me to ask some help, he bought a Deere 650 compact tractor with fairly low hours. He wants to add a front-end loader, and has purchased an aftermarket unit. He does not have clear instructions on how and where to hook the hydraulics for the loader, and is not real tractor-savvy. The best I could get from him, he does not have remote SCVs on the rear nor in the center of the tractor. There is no joystick on the tractor, but two control valves on the loader itself.

It sounds to me like he needs to tap into the hydraulic supply and return to route to the valves on the loader itself. I have looked at he JD Parts site at the expanded drawings, but most seem to show the in/out ports for a tractor with remote SCVs already.

Any help that I can send him as to where to tap in for supply and return? I know some units have the return near the filter housing for faster flow, but I am not familiar with these imported models.

Thanks in advance, sorry for the lack of solid information.

I'm not sure what would have been available for a "power beyond" adapter for a 650.

It is POSSIBLE something might be shown in the Parts Catalog for a factory-option loader, but I don't know what number loader that would be to look.

Since this is a simple open-center gear pump system, there's no need to return to the filter cover.

One option would be to re-route the hydraulic pump output line to the pressure port on the loader valve, then connect the "power beyond" port (if so equipped) in the loader valve to the 3-point, and return line to sump.

With some valves, you could simply install it in series ahead of the 3-point valve.

Addendum...

I checked Tractordata, and, if they are correct, the "60" loader would have been the factory loader option.

Looked at PC2230, the parts catalog for that loader. and didn't (at least in a quick look) see a loader valve, which would make me think they used the tractor's SCV's to run the loader.

Wonder what the GPM of that little factory timing gear pump is, I can't see it operating a loader real fast!

My renter has an 850 with factory scv's, and a friend has a 650 with 3-point only, so no help with something to look at with those!

You will need a loader valve with a power beyond port. Under the seat on the front side of the rockshaft valve there are 2 hex plugs. You have to install a special allen screw type plug down inside one of the ports. I can't remember if it is the upper or lower one. IIRC jd parts book shows this and can be accessed at jd parts .com
From one rockshaft port a hose goes to the loader "in" port. From the "power beyond" port on loader valve a hose goes back to the rockshaft port. And from the loader valve return port a hose goes back to return in a spot on the side of the trans. case.
I have the factory instructions for this somewhere ? I have a 750 and installed the valve to operate a frt. blade.

Thanks for the input, guys. Mike, if you can make the instructions available or at least the number for the instructions, they sound like the directions he needs. Since he has valves on his loader, I wonder if he needs to add a JD valve, or just connect at those points you mentioned.

Once again, this is a guy at work, who was smitten by the idea that the aftermarket loader was only $2500 delivered to his door on a pallet, but now has no idea how to hook it into the hydraulics. I have too many projects of my own already, so this will be an information pass-through at best.

I will be looking for the inst. in the coming days. The more I think of it they are likely with the 750 owners manual at Dads place.

I hope he has the correct hydraulic pump for the loader. They had several different combinations of hydraulic pumps and power steering. They could be bought really cheap with low volume pumps and no power steering. It made a difference if it was 2wd or MFWD too.

I will look and see if I still have the loader installation books for a JD 650. I installed the majority of the loaders during that time frame. Mike is correct in that you use a power beyond type setup.

I'm pretty sure he said it was two wheel drive- I asked if he was sure the tractor had a pump big enough for the loader, but he couldn't tell me. Sounds like it has a three point hitch, but I didn't think that meant it could handle a loader. Of course, the loader has been bought, delivered and partially installed, so this is moving forward one way or another. I suppose a PTO pump and tank are a possibility.

At 17 hp, I'm not sure what he has planned for the unit, but expect that it will be used like it was a D9 Cat and JD644 loader.

Not sure what JDseller means about different pumps on the 650 ?
jdparts only lists 1 part number for a 650 and another one for a 750. and both of them are showing as NLA

I plan on stopping by my parents place as the needed paperwork should be there. I will try and scan it so it can be sent in an email. do you have an email address to use ? my link should be opened up if you want to use the link at this site.
