6030 transmission case broken

A friend just bought a 6030 in the US
The tractor arrived in France and it was quickly diagnosed that the park pawl did not work. Further diagnosis showed that the tabs had broken off.

Seller said to weld the tabs back off and that tractor has no warranty. It is not a good feeling to weld it.
6030 trans case is pretty much not obtainable.
What are the options?
- Finding a case in the US? Do you know where there is one?
- Welding the tangs back on? I really do not like it. Did someone tried?
- Make a big chunck of iron that bolts to it trough the side of the case?

- I have a spare 5020 trans that is complete and that I would give to him. How much of the 6030 gears and shaft will fit in a 5020 trans case? From JD parts, I can see a bunch of new numbers, but what is really different?

- At last resort, I can swap out the complete 5020 tranny, but what a loss! You pay 6030 prices for a repowered 5020!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

"Finding a case in the US? Do you know where there is one?"

Check with these guys, NOT the most jolly folks in the world, but reliable, and they've wrecked out a few 6030's and DO ship worldwide.

Thanks for the ideas.
The tractor was bought to a/the 6030 specialist. We have been told midwest is flat and it is impossible to know if it failed. It is hard to believe, but at the same time the seller seems to be a nice guy.

Now another idea to fix it that I think is the simplest and the most robust is to modify the shifter cam so both A and D gears are engaged like 4020s do. Or do they go A and C?

It should be fairly easy to built up and remachine the shifter command cam to engage D gear when place in park, put a spring from a 4240 on the range shifter linkage under the dash to allow park disengagment on slopes, and move on with the issue.
The modification would be totally invisible and I would feel pretty good about it.
Plus no more cowboys putting it in park at 15MPH is a plus.

What do you guys think about that last one?

This park lock system different on 5010-6030, is another proof that those tractors transmission where first built to haul dirt with the scraper:
For a scraper, the 4020SR park lock is not convenient because difficult to remove under load, and stop under loads have to be frequent with a 10.5 yard scraper...

They should have put a band brake around the diff like the utility tractors and not this system that can be broken easily and does not save your life if your brakes failed for any reason.

Overall, scraper use is what makes them so different, with the full time charge pump, the big and wide tranny to carry heavy loads, the trumpets that alllow installation of full length frames, etc...

The 4620 is about the same strength as a 5020 but in a row crop / classic format. I actually think that the 4520 finals drive are stronger than 5020 ones, because they are so much wider. However, the 5010-6030 probably had a bigger final drive gear reduction, which make them so much stronger, plus again, due to the 25MPH scraper usage, the trans was made to run in first gear.

I'm from the Midwest. Its not so flat you don't need park. That said I'd probably call all states ag they would have a used one.

I sure hope the seller did not knowingly sell you a broken tractor ! But there are a lot of dishonest people so that's why I like to only buy in person.
But suppose it did actually work before. I wonder if there is a chance the long rough boat ride over there could of damaged it ?
The company I work for ships a lot of stuff overseas and every once in awhile our machines sustain some pretty good damage.

Seems like a nice guy comment is easy when you are in France. To not know park didn't work would surprise most people. There is a 6030 expert in Ill. by name of Brad Walk that could probably give you correct advice 217-246-3445

More than 2 years later, this is how the transmission case has been fixed. This is an half cap put over the remainder of the machined transmission case.

Now tractor needs reassembly. Owner is still sorrow about the seller. It is quite impossible that the transmission got damaged during boat shipment, because the rear axles were off the tractor... And transmission had been open very recently, with blue silicon all over the opening and nothing torqued or assembled properly (only 2 bolts off the ring gears were tight, while others had destroyed RH brake lines and diff lock line (that also was not told).

Here is a "before" picture.
I am posting this because this is not first time this guy has done it. He had a 4955 that someone jammed in park with an 4900 Hesston baler behind and broke transmission case exactly like this 6030 did.
On European's 4955 there is a parking brake, so you can get by easier...

Looks like a really good fix, thanks for sharing! It will undoubtedly help someone out someday......

How's your 6030 powershift project coming?

Yes this should work.
Yes project is making progress. I have all the parts disassembled under the same roof. This took huge time as I left USA and went to Italy for work(as an engineer on the Ideal combine), then I came back to France and found a place to buy and have been busy grouping all my tractors and parts together.
I am only missing the clutch and flywheel. For the flywheel, I need to get one from USA, and for the clutch a 4840 or 4640 is probably the best option. The 760a is same as 4630 but I am worried it will be too weak?
