I bought a f145 4 bottom plow over the weekend but my tractor is better suited for a 3 bottom plow. Can a 4 bottom f145 be converted to a 3 bottom?

One done correctly is hard to tell except the main frame will be larger and can be done easily.People like the guage wheel and sidehill hitches. Its funny how the larger the plow the less it brings.I was surprised how well mounted plows sell.I bought 5 nicely restored plows from 2 to 5 bottom and the 3 bottom mounted were first ones to sell. Was told ease of loading and length were the reason as clearance isn't usually and issue at plow days.I bought a tractor and guy told me to do the deal I had to take a rusty looking manual lift 2 bottom plow and 12row cultivator.I tried to give it to a couple friends with no takers so took it to consignment sale and it brought $520 outselling a nice 5 bottom auto reset beside it

Pages 34 to 37 of the owners manual gives a detailed description of how to reduce the plow size. Should be easy to find an owners manual. Maybe this site, Tyler, Jensales.

There have been lots of 4 bottom plows cut down to three and 5 bottom cut down to 4. I think like posted below some of the manuals said how. It would be nice to find a factory one to get correct length for the steering rod. You just move the one forward and have to cut the other one and shorten it. I helped Dad do a couple 30+ years ago. Yes they can be reduced in size by one bottom without too much trouble. The operator manual (as others have stated) gives directions. The real trick is that you can't purchase new steering and lift rods from JD so he will have to shorten the originals and use an educated guess as to their length.

I believe the operators manual describes how to remove the third bottom and move the last bottom forward. The hitch needs to be moved. The lift rod and one of the steering rods need to be shortened.

I will be interested in this as well . Might also post on the implement alley page . My guess is the only way to change eould be just to drop the rear bottom off but there doesn’t look like a way to shorten the frame

Shortening the frame is no problem..once you are done, use a Cut off wheel and cut it off..!!

I have a couple F-145 4x16" Semi-Mounts, one I have shortened to 3x16".. You just need to move the last bottom forward and shorten or cut off anything you don't NEED..!!

That 4x16" sure looked funny when I moved it with my 520..I bet it would pull it..(on the ROAD)..!!!
