does anybody know the basic wiring for a jd 1020 put new starter now it won't start old starter kept sticking dont knnow if something burnt up took off all wires want to make sure everything is hooked up right

Gas or diesel... cranks but won't start or won't crank.
You need to give a little info.

Those are pretty simple set up but does have one safety switch. If it where me I would start by making 1000% sure it was out of gear and then jump across the 2 big posts on the starter solenoid and see if the starter spins up. It is not likely that it will spin the engine when you do that. Next I would jump from the small wire on the solenoid to the battery cable post and see if it spins up it should spin the engine over this time. If it does that then it is time to trace what and where the wiring problem, is

Neutral start switch can be accessed by removing cowling that the 2 gearshift levers protrude through. If switch elect. posts don't have continuity when trans is in neutral sometimes one can remove switch then remove all but one sealing washers then reinstall switch & it will have continuity.

Jim something is wrong your sort of agreeing with me. Better be careful the sky may fall LOL

Besides the 1000%, I always make sure the brakes are jammed on and locked on, and make sure I have my cell phone very handy.

No I never could get the 3 point working like it should have. I think there was something bent and or out of place some how. I know when it came in there was that one part we talked about that was broken but the 3 point did work before I tried o put a new one in. Not sure the guy has even done anything with it since last I knew he had a bad fall and was in the hospital.

He did have a guy who knew the 3 point system better then I do so he was taking it to him so he many have gotten it working. I did run real well when it left my shop but then it should have I replaced the pistons and sleeves etc.
