Thanks for the helpful forum, glad to be on board.

I've got a 2630 John Deere and am wanting to change the 540 pto to 1000 if it's at all possible. Mine has a snap ring holding it in and I haven't taken the time to try to remove it, the book says that it was an option. I have found a 1000 stub shaft but I'm hesitant to buy it until I find out for sure it can be changed anybody know or can tell me what to look for. According to my local JD dealership the part # T30803 is the correct number of the pto. but how do I find out if mine will accept this shaft.

If it has the snap ring it should be able to be
converted from 540 to 1000 I?m sure somebody
who knows more than me will chime in Are you
sure the other stub shaft isn?t still in the storage
position ?

Thanks for your reply, and no there isn't a storage place or 2nd stub shaft. The book says the 1000 was an option, but it also says an option only with the reverser which I don't have.

The 2630 did not have a storage "position", other than perhaps the tool box. If the 2630 has a snap ring holding the PTO, then it can be changed out with the 21 spline stub for 1000 rpm.

Park the tractor front end low. Remove the snap ring and see if the pto shaft can be
pulled out. When you get it out, compare the inner splines to the 1000 rpm shaft.
There should be enough similarity such that they will inter change yet mesh
differently inside the housing to provide for the different speeds.

Good news for me, I pulled my 540 stub shaft out and I can see where there is another set of gears back in the hole to accommodate the 21 spline 1000 pto stub shaft.
