MW Power Block

Had a discussion with a friend and he said that you could bore out a JD block to equal the bore of a Power Block. I did not think you could do that. Dad had a Power Block put in a 1951 A, I was just a kid then and did not pay any attention to how big the bore was in the Power Block. Other farmers in the neighborhood had Power Blocks put in, then complained of fuel consumption. Just wandering.

In general, you can safely bore an A/B/G stock block .250". Unstyled A blocks were commonly bored .375" to 5.875, and that worked as long as the water side of the cylinder wasn't rust pitted too deep. I've also heard of good G blocks being bored to 6.5", same as a G Power Block. I have a friend that had a replacement NOS A block bored to 6.000". He claimed that the sleeves were thicker on the replacement blocks that were cast after tractor production ceased.
