6410 Blowing Smoke and running rough

A couple days ago, I started my 6410 and about 30 seconds into operation, it began to blow extreme amounts of white smoke and ran extremely rough. When I shut it down, I noticed a fuel drip from near the bottom of the injector pump. When I go out to start it now, it will not even try to start. When the engine turns over, white some puffs from the engine, but it does not attempt to fire off. The leak is still there near the bottom of the injector pump ( coming from behind a round piece held on with 2 allen screws).

I suspect the injector pump needs replacing, but before I sink that kinda money into it, can anyone give me an opinion about the issue?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I did check the pump operation by
removing the fuel filter and seeing how much fuel was being
pumped. It seems to be pumping fine. I dropped the fuel fileter
on the ground and got dirt in it, so I?ll be putting a new one on
today. I?ll update on if that has an effect.

I was able to replace the fuel filter and got the machine to start
up again, but the smoke and rough running are still present. I
replaced a couple of the ?easy to reach? o-rings, but fuel
continues to leak heavily from the underneath side of the
injector pump. I tightened everything I could find to tighten, but
nothing slowed the leak. The leak and the smoke all came at
the same time, so I?m sure they have something to do with
one another. Anyone have any other suggestions short of
spending the $2200 for a Reman pump? Is it cheaper to
rebuild the pump I have?

Where do you live? There are several members of this forum that renew injection pumps as a business. Maybe one or all of them will "chime in"? I would think there are cheaper pump replacements than $2200.

Look on Tractor Talk for this thread "Maybe a question for Dieseltech" then contact via email Dieseltech or Al Baker(pumpman). I can't remember where they live but both have been members of this forum for several yrs.
