4440 camshaft

I am working my early 4430 tractor and it needs a new camshaft and oil pump gear. My question is I have a friend with a brand new never used cam out of a 4440 I can buy but I see they are different part numbers the 4430 is a AR100385 and the 4440 is a AR100386 I was wondering what the difference is? The new 4440 cam has the drive gear for the oil pump on it I do know that.
 
Tim, do you know what the difference would be between these 2 cams? A little story with this tractor my grandparents purchased this tractor new in the spring of 1973 and used it hard on a dairy farm up until they sold out in 1995 at this time it had around 12,000 hours. I always wanted to find this tractor but never knew where it went time went by and last spring I happen to be on Tractor house and found it and bought it back. It made it south over 1,400 miles and was in sad shape but I have it back and I'm slowly fixing it up and now I'm at the point of doing some engine work and I know it needs the oil pump gear and camshaft updated. If I had to guess it has over 20,000 hours now but who really knows. The engine starts and runs good and apparently had an a in frame overhaul at some point in the last 22 years but still needs a few upgrades. I'm going to send the pump and injectors away in the near future also.
 
The AR100386 is listed with the 4240 at $648,,the AR100385 is listed with the 4440 at $569,, I am wondering if the AR100386 has a lobe for a lift pump drive..other than that I am not sure of the difference,,I know the early 404 cams were improved to help with the oil pump drive gear wear,, I don't have any info on valve lift or duration,,I have seen them used in other 404 applications, even in 4020's..so it will work out for sure,,even better if the price is right. I have an old 4430 like yours here that was bought new by the family,, it was the first new Gen sold at a dealership 75 miles East of me,,they quit milking back in the 80's and the old Gal sat in the barn for years,, now the sons want to bring it back,,and it is in sorry shape now,, I just did the AC system, hydraulic pump and lights,,waiting to see how far they want me to go for now, the interior is "Gone",,it's been repainted years back and not a good job then,,it's so Ugly you can hardly look at it,,,I won't paint it for them but I will do anything else that they want..and like some one on here said.."If it cast a shadow it can be restored"... When I restore one I like to go clear down..inside and out..seals sychro's, axle bearings, engine, Hydraulics and components..paint then wiring..and it takes a lot of time and money for a job like that. A few years ago I did 2 2510's for a guy like that I did all but the paint..and it was a pricey job..I never did see how they turned out but they ran and shifted nice with no leaks..
 
Wouldn't 4240 and 4440 cam be different Tim due to non turbo vs turbo? I thought even 4230/4430 were different as well. Depending on early vs late they had different pistons heads And injectors.

There sure are a lot of guys around here that wonder why 4230's start so hard compared to the others.
 
You would think that there would be a bit of a difference in them,,I know years back we swapped cams from 4430's into 4020's and didn't really see or feel much difference in them..basically they interchange,,as far as lift and duration..maybe some slight differences.. With the 4230's the primary reason they were poor starters was the compression ratio,, up grade the pistons and they will start like a 4020. Back when they were new Deere had us swapping injectors to help with the poor starting,,maybe they were side stepping the cost of a piston change...but it did give the 4230's a bad name at the time,,my thoughts were they didn't care much about that 100hp size sales,,but it would have been good for the company if they would have addressed it better..
 
I have never heard a good explanation for this,,but some where along the line it was poor judgement...I know when we were selling them new it created a lot of hard feelings...
