4040 with 13.6-38 tires?

I came across a 4040 with 13.6-38 tires on the back on a popular online auction site. They have to be uncommon with that size tire... Right? I was thinking that most would have 16.9-38s

People put different tires on for different reasons. 16.9-38 or 18.4-38 would probably be the most common. A lot tractors that size were set up with
13.6-38 or 14.9-38 in this area for cultivating beans and sugar beets. They wanted the narrower tires to fit between the rows. Does it have lift
assist on the 3 point? Of course sometimes, somebody just puts on whatever is around and holding air, before they sell it so they can keep a good set
of tires for some other tractor they have.

I just purchased a 4040 that my uncle ordered brand new in 1981 with 15.5-38 rears.
he was using the tractor to pull white beans and it had to go down 30 inch rows.
I plan on puting 18.4 -38 on it some day but for now I will have to put up with it looking
kinda out of proportion.

I talked with him on the phone yesterday and he said he bought the tractor new and it came with those tires on it, but the rims are grey. Guessing the dealer set it up how he wanted it and didn't bother to paint the rims. He has two sets of clamp-on duals - one set up for 30" rows and one set up for 22" rows, so you guys were right that it was for cultivating. Also, there is a lift assist on the tractor. Talked with him quite a while and he seems to be an honest fellow.

A one-owner 4040 powershift with 7300 hours is likely going to be out of my price range. Especially if I consider the cost to get it or pay someone to get it at 825 miles one way.

13.6X38 tire size isn't listed in 4040 parts catalog
