Could someone please give me the carb settings. I took carb
off to clean it and bought a basic rebuild kit. The carb seems
to just poor out gas after just a a few cranks. I can?t get the
tractor to start either. I have all new rotor, cap, points, dust
cover,6v ignition coil, spark plugs and all new wiring with
switch. Idk what else it could be as to why it won?t start. I did
adjust the distrbuter bc it wouldn?t start before all this. I timed
tractor doing it the manual way. I followed the instructions on
what the manual said. Maybe i did it wrong. Idk. But to recap
the tractor has spark to spark plugs and spark plugs have
spark as well. Carb floods like a river. Please let me know
what you guys think.

Flooding carburetor usually means a stuck needle valve or improper float setting. What tractor are you working on?

I have a model M,same engine and carb. your needle and seat are not working properly, possibly the float is stuck, remove the carb and take the float bowl off to check free movement of the float. After you reassemble it turn the carb upside down and back a couple times and listen for movement of the float,I sometimes will blow with my mouth into the gas inlet with it inverted to see if the needle is seating but thats up to you.You should have a manual for your tractor, put it on your Xmas list they're not that much and very handy to have at a time like this.My E-mail is open if you want me to copy and send you the pages on the carb.

I second what ET said. One time my MT started doing this and it was flooding back into the air cleaner pipe even. The float in my carb had a pinhole and would fill up with fuel. This then allows the needle valve to stay wide open. I put in a new needle valve and float. No problems. Also make sure you have the screen in the fuel bowl & shut off at the tank. When I was putting my LA back together I forgot the little round screen disk. A small bit of grit got into my rebuilt carb and caused the needle valve to stick open. Same thing, flooding fuel.

Get yourself a timing light and a 12volt source to run the light and then time the tractor. I just parked my truck next to the tractor when I time my old 6 volt tractors. If you followed what the book said you should be close enough to get it to run. You can then fine tune the timing with the light. Made a good difference on my MT in terms of easier starting.

I was trying to help a friend get his M started last year. Had spark, had fuel, just wouldn't start. We found a bent push rod and a broken spring keeper on the intake valve on cylinder #1. It will never start like that. A valve cover gasket is cheap enough to purchase to make sure you aren't cranking away doing more damage on a valve train that has issues. If after you get the fuel issue fixed it won't run I would take a look into the valve train.

If carb is flooding like a river you most likely have a bad float or needle and seat. If you had the air cleaner hose hooked up you most likely have an engine full of gas. Pull the dipstick and check it. Plugs are definitely wet now which renders them useless untill cleaned and dried.

Since you are still 6v you should have approxamately 1 & 1/2 ohms across the coil. You need a 5v min at the points. Would be best if you moved the ground cable from the dash to the starter.

You should order a sintered weep plug for the bottom from roberts just in case it leaks again after you get it fixed. That way excess gas drips out so you can see it and it doesn't get pulled into the engine. Just tap the old plug out with a pin punch and the new one back in with a larger pin punch.

Basic carb settings are 1 round out on both jets. Carb float is 1/4 inch from the gasket to the float. If you have to bend the tangs to set the float lift it so it won't be pushing on the needle and seat while you do it.

My guess is you're going to be pull starting it once you get the carb straightened out. Once she's running you can reset the timing using a light and adjust the carb. Should be good to go after that.

Thanks guys I appreciate the replies. ! I will get a timing light today. I will also check the float. I thought it was the float myself but wanted someone else?s opinion. I will keep you guys posted. Going to buy some parts now.
