Dipstick on 3020 Diesel

The dipstick on my 1964 3020 Diesel is the kind with two O-rings and a black knob on top that turns almost one revolution to tighten.

The other day it blew out of the crankcase. Not sure if I didn't have it all the way tight or what. In any case, I replaced the O-rings. But if I give it a good yank, I can pull it out of the engine. Is that normal? Can I adjust the threaded compression mechanism at the top of the dipstick?

I'm guessing it was replaced at some point, or the engine swapped? All the early 3020s and 4020s I've seen have a threaded metal cap...

It also shouldn't build up pressure to the point of blowing out the dipstick. Is the breather tube plugged???

I'm going to guess breather is plugged it shouldn't have blowed the cap off. If you keep having a hard time you can email me I'm not 20 minutes from reo.

Okay, thanks. I will check the breather. And good to know that you are close if I need help.

The one in my 4020 will pull out even if it is tight If
you pull real hard so I?d say it?s probably ok and
they will pop out if the o rings are bad

The o rings were on 69/72 and the knob on top tightened it up .Your tractor may have newer engine as a 64 would have one that screws on.Even if it pulls out it should stay in place unless there is blockage in blow by tube.I looked at one that had steel wool wedged in tube to disquise blowby problem and o-ring dipstick blew out on test drive.I passed

On a 2510 I bought I found a plug inside the valve cover designed to plug the breather tube. If a tractor has no blow by my opinion is to beware or run.
