Can anyone tell me how to disassemble the governor from the governor case? Does the snap ring on the mag side have to come out first? Or should the whole assembly slide out once the gear cover has been removed?

Thanks for the reply so quickly. I have unscrewed the fork from the shaft. The whole governor assembly seems to be solidly still in the case. I just wanted to make sure I had not overlooked anything before trying to tap the shaft out.

Be sure to remove the magneto or the distributor before you try to reassemble it. The spring will break it if you
aren't careful.

You would swear it won't come out of the left side of the housing, but It will, once it's turned right & you loosen the
the flapper arm.

As I recall you also have to remove that oil line underneath that feeds the governor
