Purchased a piece of property and a backhoe that was not in running condition came with it. I got it running but have a problem with weak or slow operation of the backhoe boom and front bucket. When lifting empty front bucket will sometimes shake. It is operating with what I say is about 50% of the power in the hydraulics. Boom operates slowly but does operate. Fluid is ok, changed hydro filter. Any suggestions what it could be. It has been this way for some time, usable but not strong. Motor runs fine. Im thinking I need to rebuild the hydraulic pump. Looking for suggestions. Any way to test hydro pump before replacing?(1976 Model) I am not a mechanic, know barely enough to get by.

Hyd filter is part number AR75603 @ $8.21. It's difficult to find one cheaper other than at JD dealer.
To check/clean sump screen(key 17) one needs to drain hyd oil. I'd also advise to check hyd filter relief valve(keys 9-11) to be sure it's not stuck open.
I'll also advise to check hyd stand-by pressure which should be 2350 psi.

I am looking at my JD book and it shows the filter part # as AR75601. Looking at my book, it was printed in Aug 1977 so my 310A could be a 1977 instead of 1976. Could this be reason for different part number? Also my diagram of the Hydraulic oil filter and relief valve is different and does not show any of parts 9-18 shown in your diagram.
Just found proper page. My diagrams are different than yours so we obviously have a different book. Couple of questions please. To check the sump screen I will need to drain all of the hydraulic oil correct? The screen can be cleaned and put back in correct. Its not normally replaced like an oil filter?
It is just a tubular screen. Just take it out, clean it, and stick it back in. You have to drain all the trans/hydraulic
oil to do it. Anything that has ever gone wrong in that tractor winds up in that screen. Brake linings, pieces of cylinder
packings, dead bugs, etc. Very common for it to get plugged. Hard to get to so is usually ignored until the hydraulics get
bad.

As long as hyd filter relief valve parts move freely in trans housing then no parts are required. AR75601 subs to AR75603
JD Book recommends using JD HyGuard (J20A) Hydro fluid or equivalent This stuff is $75 for 5 gallons and ill need 2 for the tractor and one for a spare. Dose anyone have any suggestion of a cheaper equivalent hydro fluid? I don't want to put in just anything but $75 for 5 gallons is more than twice what NAPA brand is, just don't know if NAPA is considered equivalent.
You can use any major brand fluids that have the equivalence to Hyguard. Do not use the very cheap ones that are written "303 transmission fluid."
At farm stores, you will be about $10 over the cheap stuff with a much better product.
The local Deere dealer had it at $64 for 5 gallons. Maybe you can buy it by the bulk cheaper at a small family owned repair shop.

I use Mobil 424, and have for decades. It is a good equivalent (maybe better
