First year for 466 ?

In what year did Deere first build the 466 engine? And what did it come in first? I couldn't find anything with a quick Google search.

The reason I'm asking- my Grandfather had a 4320 super stock puller in the 70's. He told me when Deere came out with their 466 they first put it in a chopper, or combine, or some other piece of equipment. The local dealer got him an engine though, and one night after milking they hauled the puller over to the dealership and did the swap. It was yellow, so he painted green. Said they won they next pull. Then the dealer from one county over came over, felt under the engine block, and said " Anyone else know about this?" Then smiled and walked away. (Years later that dealer told Grandad the 466 had an extra rib in the casting or something, that he was feeling for) Anyway, I had heard him tell that story and was curious what exact year that would have been, and what the engine would have been from. Grandad couldn't remember.

Someone else feel free to correct me if I am wrong but the 466 came out with the 40 series tractors and 20 series combines at the same time?

I know that the 466 was built after Sydenstricker built the motor for his pulling tractor.

Deere 8430 tractor had it in late 1974.
But that would be a one with the big fuel pump and big bolt pattern up front (thus easy to see from outside).

(quoted from post at 21:35:18 12/03/17) Likely about 1978 with the 40 series (4440, 4640 & 4840). We had one of each of these on the farm back then.

nope, 8430

The 8430 did have the 466ci when they came out in '75. So I would agree that it's probably the first tractor to have the motor.
