1971 4020 Which speed hour meter is correct?

Have looked on numerous vendors web sites, including YT, for a new meter and am confused. They show 2100 rpm @ pto speed for a 4020 above serial # 250,000. My service manual tm-1006 lists pto speed @ 1900 rpm. They also have the white needle meters with the green operating speed zone to either 2200 or 2500 rpm. My tractor is # 251632. Thank you.

I have seen the 2100 RPM ones advertised as well, and I think that is wrong, but never owned a 4020 that late. 3020s had the higher RPM PTO speed. I have never seen in a parts book wher PTO gearing was
changed.

I believe you should have a tach with a white needle, a white band, and 1900 RPM.

PTO drive shaft(key 19) is different but I don't know if tooth count is different. It appears earlier shaft subs to later shaft so I'm guessing tooth count is the same for both shafts

That is what is in it now. Hour meter works fine, but tach needle swings wildly. I would rather get mine repaired vs. getting a new one. Will have to start the search for a repair shop. Thank you.

I'm thinking '69 was the last year for colored stripes.
Seems they were green and red.

I think 1970 model stuff had the colored band as well (that and 69 had a white needle, though). We had a 1970 5020 we bought new... it had the colored band. So my guess- the band changed with the other changes at 250000.

I have a 71 4020 with a serial number less than 400 numbers after yours. It has a white stripe and white needle with 1900 RPM.

Thank you all for your replies. Still searching for a gauge repair shop that will work on ag items. All the shops I have contacted so far only work on automotive gauges.

1972 sn265510 has white stripe and white needle and 1900 pto rpm. Also swings back and forth. Would love to hear if it can be repaired.

What was the cost of repairs if you don't mind posting?

Take the tack cable off at the bottom end , and pull the center cable out and use some white lithium grease on it . If the tack head is good should stop the flutter .

It was two hundred forty dollars with new cable and housing.I put in a new tach when the tractor was overhauled and it ran for ninety hours and quit.Put in another one and it ran to fast. The third one lasted ten hours and quit so I decided to send the original tach to get rebuilt. They were not USA made and I don't know if you can find any American made.

I had my 1961 4010 tach restored by APT Instruments (http://www.gaugeguys.com/). They did a great job at restoring the gauge.
