For the group: 2003 5103 with JD 510 loader-shows 1000 hrs--I know nothing good or bad about this series--neighbor friend needs something about this size for small farm projects--some loader work and pasture clipping--small brushhog--he needs to step up from his old 8N---need your thoughts on this model please

(quoted from post at 08:36:55 11/21/17) They are a good basic little tractor..

Thanks Tim--I don't think it's the 50 hp model, according to the VIN--TY5103V000110--by looking at Tractor Data, but the little feller looks to be in pretty good shape--Happy Thanksgiving--Andy

To me the 5000 series JD utility tractors are very noisy when engine is running plus I dislike their pto engagement mechanism but I think they're miles ahead of a Ford 8N.

I have a 5105 with a loader and 4x4. I guess it depends on the price and if it has 4x4 ?
I'm pretty sure they will like it. Those loaders will lift a lot (might even lift the 8N) so make sure you counter balance the rear enough. I would not pass it up if the price was good. That's how I ended up with mine.

(quoted from post at 13:50:50 11/22/17) Check the clutch adjustment. We had a 5403 and
the clutch was gone at 1000 hrs.

Ok--is this a fully mechanical-linkage clutch?--seems like the pedal engages fairly close to the top of travel--or do you think it may adjust some more??

(quoted from post at 17:29:24 11/23/17) See how much adjustment is left. If they are used
more than just a "weekend warrior" the clutch is one
of the week spots.

Thanks--where is the adjustment on this little feller, or is it obvious?? thanks
