JD M TOM assembly

Folks,
First history....
Bought the M, took it for a drive, oil in TOM was boiling out of cap before engine got up to operating full temperature. Pulled system out drained and cleaned, installed new gaskets, and filled with oil. Problem stopped.
Now my TOM doesn't operate correctly, it did before even with oil issues. Does anyone know what I did wrong, or what the proper way to make sure this is set right before I put it all together and fill it with oil again. Just want to do it right the first time.

What do you mean by not operating correctly? Is it possible you didn't have the Deere service manual before you started? That would be a problem. Did you mess with the valve in the pic without putting it back together at EXACTLY the same length? If so the only way to set it is with a pressure gauge and repeatedly taking the rear off and adjusting. There's way too much in the service manual to post so you'll need to order a service manual from Deere or Davenport if that's necessary. Make sure the lift quadrant is forward when you tighten it up so it won't try to lift too high. BTW - If I'm not mistaken there are three different pressure adjusting procedures depending on the serial number.

Oil bubbling out is usually caused by someone putting detergent oil in the tom or a suction line air leak. The rubber seals are easy to replace and aren't that expensive.

I have ordered the manual after I did this of course.
I did not remove any valves, I just separated it and put in new gaskets and put it back together. The travel on the arms was all screwed up. It would continually raise after only moving the lever about 1 1/2 inches up. I think I didn't have some piston or handle in the right place when I put it together. I tried not to change anything since I was just cleaning out old oil and it worked great minus the bubbling issue. I'll wait for the manual to see if it tells me where things need to be when it is put together.

Can you push the arms back down after you think it has raised higher than it should have?
Might have a surplus of air in the system..
