By filter housing, do you mean the "can" that holds the oil filter? If so, plan a long afternoon to get it out. You will have to remove the oil lines from the top of the "can", then push the can up from the bottom using some sort of block that will fit inside the "can" and a jack to push it up. You must mark the position of the "can" so you can re-install it exactly in it's original position. What is the reason for removing the "can"?
Hope I am not confused about what you want to do.

I took a 4x4, shaved the corners to fit tightly in the can, layed underneath and drove it out using a 3 lb hammer.
 
I used a round hardwood stick off the woodpile to drive one out of my H and ended up distorting the end where the filter head mounts. Don't take it out unless you really have to.
