Can someone tell me the best place to install a block heater? I'm finishing a rebuild and don't see a place for one. Thank you
Michael

I'm guessing yours is not a 71 or 72 with the knockout plug in the block (left side).

Usually on earlier ones they are tapped into the block drain plug ahead of the starter, and fed to the heater mounted on the right side by the oil cooler. From there a line is run to one of the plugs in the
head, or can be tapped into the top of the oil cooler.

I'm sorry I don't have a picture, but have 3 here set up like that.

The canister heaters work well on the pre console 4020s

. Top of coolant heater is pipes to the highest coolant port on the engine side of the coolant thermostats.
Bottom of coolant heater is plumbed to the lowest port on the engine block.
Heater can not be above or below engine ports .

Wherever you pipe it, make sure the tank is below the lowest point in the water jacket so it can circulate correctly.

Correction, what was I thinking. heater level lower port level with or lower than the lower port from the block.
