The I T manual say to remove govenor to remove block out the top of frame rails . Seems to me on here someone said to trim the lower frame rails and it could come out the bottom . Has anyone done this ? I didnt want to remove the govenor if i didnt have to .

I have never had to touch the governor for removing a block from a early or late A. Last winter I had to remove the front fan shaft bolts and loosen the governor on a late B to get the block out over the top of the frame. I have never smashed a finger either when working on them but It sure could happen easy.

Those IT manuals have a lot of mis-information . The block will come out the bottom if you turn it on its side and then turn it so the lip can be brought out . I used to do this myself as you can sure bust up some fingers if you are not careful .

I have I&T manual on the A as that is all there ever was as JD didn't make one. Mine must of said to go out the bottom as that is how I remember doing them. All the 2 cyl. I can think of were designed to be able to remove the head and then the block with the fan, gov. and sheet metal intact. Now it isn't easy and has to be just right but the block on an A I do agree with the other fellow will come out the bottom. Best to get a helper too.
