Model M clutch woes

My M clutch doesn't slip and seems adjusted, but the pedal hangs and jerks on the way up. The spring seems strong enough. Pedal just seems too hard to move. Is there something to lubricate or grease?

This is not more than an educated guess........
I did a "clutch job" on a 40. In addition to the driven disk being worn out,
the throw-out bearing carrier was severely worn.

Because I had it in my hand, I replaced the throw-out bearing, but the real improvemnt
came from rebuilding the worn pivot surfaces of the carrier.

Does the threaded shaft sticking out the left side of the torque tube easily adjust the free travel?
If the answer is NO, my bet is the carrier is causing clutch travel issues.

Has the tractor ever been split?

The early M's had a stamped tin throw out carrier, later models used a cast steel version.
I'd think your shaft is dry, & your clutch facing might be wore out. I've seen a few where
the adjustment stud is spinning in the operating quadrant. I would been the only way your
going to fix it right is split it & check things out with you eyes. , Would be nice if J/D
would have built a inspection cover in it.

I'll check the adjustment, The tractor has not been split before.

Mine is a 50. It sat outside unused for probably 10-12 years before I started on it. I don't know if there was a problem before it stopped being used or the problem is from neglect. Thank you both for your input.
