Hydraulic Questions

I have had a real time getting the hydraulics on my 1010 to stop leaking. I've taken the entire hydraulic housing apart 3 times attempting to re-seal it. The last time, I took everything out, cleaned all the old gasket off, and put on new JD gaskets. Put it back on and it's still leaking between the forward housing and the middle section. Before I take it to Deere and pay them $100 an hour for labor to fix it, I saw that they make liquid gasket makers. Has anyone ever used those and do they make one suitable for a hydraulic system? I'm at my wits end with this and I don't want to take it apart again, but I also don't want to spend 1000 dollars to get Deere to fix it.

Thanks.

If it is truly leaking from the center section and your positive that it is leaking hydraulic oil, pay close attention to the hydraulic pump as there is no hydraulic oil internally to the center section (torque tube), unless it is oil leaking from the transmission....

I bet it is leaking out of the pump and filling the center section,.

No not the pump, the actual hydraulic housing where the cylinders and rockshaft are.

I highlighted it in the picture. That isn't my system just the only pic I could find online.

Disassemble and take a stone and clean up the mating surfaces and make sure that there are no high spots causing poor surface alignment. Use some Permatex Aviation from-a-gasket on both sides of the paper gasket. You should be able to get the permatex at any auto parts store. You can get the stone from McMaster Carr or Amazon.

The TOM on my MT leaked out of there. I used Indian Head Gasket shellac/sealer on the paper gasket which I just about the same as the Permatex Haymaker posted I believe. When I did that I also used new bolts and lock washers and chased the on the block section. I have a friend with a huge slab of stone that does some machine work and had him check my two parts to see if they were flat. They were flat but I did have a bur or two to clean up like Haymaker also said. I put sticky back fine grit sand paper on the flattest surface I had and lightly worked the area up. By doing it this way instead of the stone you shouldn't get any metal in the system which was a concern I had after rebuilding. Get a torque wrench and make sure you torque the bolts to the same specs going up in small increments (borrower or rent for Advanced Auto). Took me two tries on my MT to get it to stop leaking.

This fixed the problem. I didn't keep the old gasket on, just put a ton of the paste and it hasn't leaked a drop in 2 weeks.
