Question: I have this tractor and it purrs like a kitten. My question is: When I start this tractor up, the oil pressure gauge shows full range. While using it, as the oil heats up, the gauge moves slowly
to the left. Then after @ 1/2 hour, the gauge is just shy of the green section on the gauge. Not much, doubt if there is any white showing between the green and white, and far from the area where it says
stop. I don't have an extra gauge to check the actual pressure. Figured my YT friends could tell me that is a concern or not. Any thoughts? I've posted photo's before, but this one won't load, sorry.

I have to admit, I bought this tractor a year ago and the oil that is in it, came with the tractor. It is "clean" but I don't know the specs. I know from comments on YT, there a a lot of folks using 10w30
diesel grade in most of their tractors. I also realize that the oils today are much better that what the owners manual says to use back in 1959. A local JD dealer says a detergent oil will not hurt anything
and recommends Hygard for the hydraulic system. The engine temperature never gets above mid range and the tractor radiator is not dirty. I only put 13hrs on it this mowing season (using a 5ft bush hog) but
I'm going to change oil just so I'll know what's in it. I don't have another gauge to check it with.

A straight weight 30 will hold a wee bit more pressure than 10W-30. Odds are the pressure is acceptable. Should you decide to change gauges , for calibration accuracy , best looking and most value for the dollar. EverGreen gauges are the units to purchase .

Looks pretty good although the painter should have used silver paint on the spin out wheels . The Row Crop Utility “W” chassis tends to be short on the backside . 15:00-15 firestone guide gripe tires will lower the front some .

First thing I would do is beg or borrow (don’t steal one) what’s known as a master gauge or one that actually reads with numbers so you can see exactly what’s going on and either T that one in with your or in place of yours temporarily. At least your gauge shows you have some pressure, probably no issues, but if it were mine and using it like you are I’d want to just double check it.

For example once the 3406 in my Peterbilt is up to temp it runs 55psi when at operating rpm, at idle it’ll be about 25psi. Minimum acceptable oil pressure for that engine according to Cat is 35psi at operating rpm and temperature, lower than that something needs attention.

Nice looking 430 btw.

Nice looking Deere. Only problem I see is it isn't in my driveway! Painter did good by staying away from the ugly silver wheels! "Sorry Glenn but silver should have NEVER been put on any Deere!"

Your oil pressure is fine. There is some bearing wear that lets the pressure drop as it warms up but it's still at the bottom of normal even then. Not bad for an old engine. I would just enjoy her like she is.

Electric gague on a 430,not that accurate. As long as it shows oil pressure your fine.

Compression is very good, no oil use what so ever. Some minor seepage at the rock shafts, but not an issue for me, oil is cheep.

Not a 100% sure but someone may have slipped a pair of Waterloo genders on there . Not a biggie as the small two rib Dubuque fenders are so small. And the larger Dubuque HD three rib fenders are $$$.
An oval Muffler from JD makes the tractor much quieter and pleasant to operate .
Do I see the rare SCV option? Five speed and live pto ?
It is possible to trace the date of manufacture, shipping date, destination and list of options .

OK, your turn for more details. Define SCV and yes it has 5 speed live PTO? I don't know how to get all the shipping, manufacturing, first owner details? Tell me more.

I grew up on a farm full of IH tractors. My dad has all the letter series tractors plus a few more. I think he has a total of 15 tractors, the largest (and newest) being a 986. Having said that, I go and
buy a green one that I have no knowledge of and no parts for. He has a shed wall full of IH parts. I just always wanted a Johnny Popper. I have noticed it does indeed like gasoline. When my first JD showed
up on the farm, (a JD 4300 with a 430 loader) he stood there with his hands behind the shoulder straps on his bibs and said: Son, that SOB is green! I thought I had managed to get myself written out of the
will. haha.

Selective Control Valve , a pair of hydraulic couplings on the rear . Rockshaft could be single or dual. Live pto has a two stage foot clutch to allow pto operation without the tractor moving. Two cylinder club has the serial plate data

No, I don't have SCV, but the rockshaft is dual and that live PTO is great. I'll have to do some research on where it came from, thanks for the info.

Nice machine!

I would prefer to have one of those as an upgrade to our 40U.

On the subject of oil pressure, our 40U operates at 40 PSI when cold & drops to just shy of 20 PSI at operating temp. / high idle. Running 15W-40 oil.
