Motor 1010 crawler

Pulled the motor out of the 1010 yesterday morn, took off the oil pan, boy could not believe the amount of form-a-gasket that they used on the pan, looks like they used a whole tube!! Pulled pistons this morn, compression rings were stuck in pistons 2,3, and 4. There was no ridge in any of the cylinders, rod bearings looked good, must have did a cheap overhaul (rings and rod bearings). Was no indication that cylinders had ever been honed, as there was no hone marks below ring travel..They used Form-a-gasket on water pump, intake manifold, and water manifold and thermostat housing, who ever worked on this machine sure liked form-a-gasket instead of using new gaskets.
Cylinder sleeves mic.ed with in spec.s.

What is the best way to remove sleeve deck without damaging it??? I want to check O'rings on the sleeves, was told they replaced sleeve deck, if they did deck like everything else, probably used lots of Form-a-gasket instead of new o'rings.

Thanks
Keith

Service manual says to carefully try prying on it, if you think it's stuck it says to take a wood block put it on the bottom of the sleeves and tap on it with a hammer. I'd do that before I even tried prying as it'll probably work better. Just be sure to do it evenly so it doesn't crack.

If it doesn't leak, don't mess with it. Not cheap if it cracks and it probably will trying to get it out.

Pulling the sleeve pack can be one of those if it isn't broken do not mess with it type of things. In theory you should be able to carefully pry it up by moving around it as you pry but if you damage it your in for a high $$ replacement if you can even find one. Last time I priced one it was over $500 and that was an iffy thing and was told if it is in stock if not in stock at least $250 more

Well here's what I have done, filled the block with antifreeze fixture, going to let it sit for couple of days. Will keep checking to see if it is leaking at bottom of sleeves. I really don't want to mess with the sleeve deck, but if it is leaking, going to figure out how to remove without damaging sleeve deck... I am firm believer, "if it is not broke, don't fix it".

Thanks everyone for the replies, suggestions
