How good are these little tractors, any known problems and is power steering std on these? how many hours will these run before overhaul if taken care of? thanks again

I have an 830 3cyl. It was bought new in 1974. Never had a major problem. Injector was rebuilt once, water pump replaced couple of times but engine never gone into and has the original clutch. Starter is also original but that may change soon. I think their good little tractors.

They're as a rule very good tractors.. I sold new JD 820 3 cylinder tractors & rarely did one return to dealership for warranty work. Hrs operated before requiring an OH with good maintenance I'll guess 8-10K hours if engine coolant is checked for PH/changed regularly & NO ether is sprayed into air intake

Most 820's do not have power steering. There were also two different transmissions. The early ones had a seven speed trans with only one reverse(Third gear). The latter ones(or maybe it was an option the whole way through) had eight speeds with four reverse gears. Dad had a new seven speed tractor and never had any problems and latter traded it for a 830 because he wanted power steering and a 143 loader. Over the years we sold a dozen or more of them. They were mostly trouble free tractors. Tom

Thank you guys for the info this one doesn't have power steering but do they steer easy without it?

Neighbor had a 820 that was gas and did not have power steering. It was okay but once you've had power steering you miss it. That would be a major point with me unless the tractor was in really good shape and price was good.

Some of these tractors had a optional remote hydraulic. That would be good.
