630 brake surprise

Yesterday I thought I'd adjust the brakes a little tighter on my 630. They were working fine, but the free pedal was about mid travel. I like about 2 inches of free pedal. I turned the right adjuster one wrench turn and immediately lost all braking on the right side. Something turned loose in there - the pedal bottoms out - I've never had this happen in the 50 plus years that I've fooled with JD brakes. I guess I've lived a sheltered life. So - I took the loader and bracket off so I can get the brake assembly off, but it got late and I quit for the evening. I'm anxious to see what is going on inside the brake drum. I might have time to get in there late today.

Anybody ever have this happen?

not so far... much more common is to have the adjuster frozen (I had a thread on this with my 70D a couple weeks ago). Hope yours comes apart easier than mine did! :)

Charles - it was pretty simple, but I'd never seen it before. One of the roller pins was broken, and the adjuster pins were on the rim of the cone. Yesterday when I spun the adjuster in a little, the adjuster pins fell off of the back of the cone and left the shoes too loose to reach the drum. I'm glad it failed sitting in front of the shop.

I have never seen that one before either ?

Sure is nice when you can see what the problems is right off the bat.
