slightly loose clutch driver on a late A

My 14 year old son bought a late A and the driver is slightly loose for and aft on a parts tractor that i found . What have any of you guys done ? Peen the sides some and expoxy ?? The driver sticks off the end of the crank by at least .100 to .125 i'd say so it'll push on tight . Ive looked at 4 parts tractors now and this one had the best flywheel and driver so far . Plus i get for free ! any tricks ??

Well, the right answer is to take the crank out and have it machined, but that isn't what you are looking to do. The splines can be built up in place, and ground to the appropriate width and height with a grinder, but this requires skill and patience in abundant amounts.

TIn shims have been used in the past, but usually as a temporary measure. You could also try what you suggested and a some JB weld, but you may end up back at square one again.

Last but not least, you could find a new driver, and see if it fits better. It very well might, and I believe there are reproduced ones for the late A available.

The driver should not go on flush with the end of the crankshaft. There are undersize drivers available. I have never used one though.

The driver is on a tapered spline, tighten the bolt good. The washer should not contact the shaft. Is the driver loose on your son's A or the parts tractor? For and aft movement? Do you mean loose as in end play in the crankshaft or the driver on the shaft?

The driver is on the parts tractor . It dose not fit flush it sticks out . The movement is rotationally . If that makes sense . Think we have the best fit for all the junk we have looked at .
