Classic green rant

So my old B lost a bearing in the first reduction system and took out a few parts along with it. First called JD, only part available is the bearing at $160.00 plus shipping. Was able to locate the other parts (used of course) and they are on the way. Spent the best part of today trying to cross reference the number off the bearing and crossed it to a GM number then from that to an SK number, with shipping my bearing will cost me less then $35. I'd say that is a bit of a mark up and I bet it wouldn't even be painted green.

I'll be the first to agree that "Mother Deere" gets awful greedy on some parts for these older tractors.
Deere wanted over $200 for the thermostat for my 60. Bought the very same thing at NAPA for around $65. You have to shop around sometimes.

Deere is just a Marketer in the parts business,,a large part of their parts sales come from outside sources,,and you can do much better shopping around a bit. Along with their flashy new stores comes a high price to pay for them, and they are doing what ever they can to increase their profits,,and along with that comes low paid counter staff that for the most part could care less to answer the phone or service your parts order.
