I need to replace the rear tires on my 1954 JD A. It has 11 X 38 tires on it now. Could be the original ones. What size would you suggest? I do use the tractor to disk, etc.

Your 11x38 tires would be equivelent to the current 12.4-38 size. Same size tire but the way they are measured changed. But, I'd agree with Old Popper that the 13.6-38 tire would look better on a late model A and they would mount fine on your current rims.

I put 15.5-38 on my 70

You know your going to get different answers, if you have 12" rims I'd install 13.6
if the tractor 10" rims I'd go with 12.4. My A has 10" rims & I put 13.6 on, I think
they are too big. But the Price was right,, Since you claim you have a 1954 which would
be the only 1954 A on record I would keep it original.
