Forgot the timing cover drain (70D)

I just realized when I changed the oil & filter on my 70D that I forgot the timing cover drain plug...

How much oil gets trapped in there? If I take that drain plug out now, will all my new oil come out or just what's in the timing cover? Or just leave it until the next time I change it?

thanks
Charles

Probably "[i:654c4848f0]just what's in the timing cover"[/i:654c4848f0].

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]Cross-Section of Powr-Trol Pump[/b:654c4848f0] illustration below.

No harm to just leave it until the next time you change it.

Nest time you might consider removing the timing gear drain plug before draining the crankcase.

Measure the amount of oil drained from the timing gear cover.

Next time maybe I will remember to do the same just for future reference.

Hope this helps.

After the tractor has set for a day or two you might want to crack that drain plug and let out any moisture that has settled.

Note the timing gear housing (Key 21).

There is not a fill plug for the housing.

Note the LH main bearing oil pipe.

Pure speculation on my part, but oil may come from the lubrication of the LH main bearing.

Hope this helps.
