Deere 214 blade engagement

Recently purchased a JD 214 and was mowing for first time today and she was running good but after about an hour the blades will no longer engage. The handle simply moves freely without engaging the blades. The blades simply became disengaged while mowing. Any help is greatly appreciated

Over the production run of the 214 they used at least two styles of mech PTO clutches, then went to an electric clutch.

Since you say you have a lever, you obviously have a mechanical PTO clutch.

My first thought was maybe the belt broke or "jumped", so did the "feel" of the lever change?

If so, something may have fallen apart/become disconnected in the PTO engagement mechanism.

Take a look for that sort of thing, then post back with an S.N..

Thanks for this info. As I dug deeper into it I discovered that the handle and linkage connect via a ball and socket and it appears that at least the socket is worn enough that the ball continues to slip out of the socket therefore I will be replacing this part.
