This is a Delco 1108914 starter for an A John Deere. Notice the extra section between the arrows and the extra long foot pedal. Any one know what modification was made to this starter? I have a regular 1108914 and its much shorter and the foot pedal is as well. Gear reduction ad on?

It might have a gear reduction added to it. M&W made gear reduction units for starters on red tractors with high compression pistons. They might have made them for green ones too.

If it had a Gear Reduction wouldn't the armature have a stair step to the nose cone?
Some where I've seen this starter Housing on something. I have a Model A with a top
mount starter but it's a NORMAL looking one, That Long Bolt on the foot pedal it the 1st
thing I noticed that was different..

I think the M&W setup used a planetary reduction. It would be interesting to pull apart and see whats in there.
