My fascination with older tractors I believe has run it's course. I am looking for a newer unit and am liking the 5205 4WD with FEL that my neighbor has. He's not much of a talker so I thought I would throw it out to the JD forum for other opinions. I'll keep my 8N's as they run well and I can use them elsewhere on my properties. What do you think?

I have a 5055d that I bought new. It is 4x2 and lines up similar to the tractor model you're looking at. Our tractor has been very good and most thrifty on fuel. My brother has a 4045d with front end loader, 4x2 with emissions. It too has been a very good tractor. Search the Internet as these 5000 series tractors - some love them and others hate them.

I have a 5105 4x4 with a 521 loader. From what I see mine is about the same machine just 10 hp ? less. I sort of know what you mean about the fascination with old tractors running it's course. LOL. I still like my old Deere's but once you get to running something newer they handle way better and spoil you. So does your neighbor want to sell his and if so how much ? You have to be careful with them and get plenty of counter weight on them as that loader will lift a lot ! The small frame makes them real handy to get into tight places but also makes them tippy. I do not really need such a large tractor but the small ones do not lift enough or high enough for things I seem to need to move around. These models seem patterned after the older Deere utility tractors which were great machines. My loader would drift down before raising with a load on it as you pulled the lever back. I figured out Deere redesigned the check valves inside the loader control valve at least on my model and year. Mine were plastic replacements were aluminum and fixed that issue. This one may be new enough to of already been upgraded. I also added an electric fuel pump to mine makes bleeding air out of the filters when changing a breeze now ! Deere did not put a mechanical lift pump on these like the older ones. They have a hand priming pump on top of the filter housing which did not work good at all.
