This came up in my search for a remedy to my problem with my A. You posted it in 07. My problem is I set my fw where it needs to be and tighten it the fw slips out and away. Your 07 reply wasI had the same problem with my 730D. I eventually drilled and tapped the center of the crank end for a fine thread 1/2" bolt and made a cup to go over the crank. I made a plate of 3/8" steel with a 9/16" hole in the center and drove the hub on with the bolt until I had the right end play. Then tighten the big square nut while the homemade press held it to spec.way. Any additional info you have on this fix is appreciated, was it a lasting solution and did it cause any issues with the bearing or crank. Do you have any photos on it? Thanks

Wow, that long ago! It's still working fine but I only run it a few times a year anymore. I don't have any pictures but I'll look this weekend and see if I can find the pieces I made. It's just a sleeve that slides on the crank until it contacts the taperloc. It extends a couple inches past the end of the crank. A flat plat with a hole in the center for the bolt pushes on the sleeve as the bolt is threaded into the crank end pushing the flywheel onto the crank. When you get it where you want it tighten the big square taperloc nut.

Ya that long ago that 730 should have still been under warranty! Right? Will look for you this weekend. Glad I found something in print I saw a distant photo of a fw with a plate but not sure of a real fix,so Im glad to hear its still going and I can fix it as mine is a toy also. The fine thread on the bolt is what really helps I dont think I would though of it. Before the fix did you have a knocking noise at low low rpms?

When I bought it the fw had been "repaired". After a couple years of using it to mow it started knocking a bit then let go completely stripping out the splines in the fw. Surprisingly the splines on the crank were not badly damaged. I put a Taperloc on it and it seems to work fine.
