Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]FINAL DRIVE AND REAR AXLE HOUSING AND SHAFT[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note the rear axle shaft (Key 16) description lists two different lengths.

Hope this helps.

They did indeed make 520/530’s with two different length axels, we have a bunch with long axels, 38” light offset hubs and single front wheels out of south Jersey. The long axel should be 3 1/8” diameter.

Fun fact, 620/630’s had an option for a special 120” thread width axel, for some strange reason we have one at home, I think it’s like 9ft 6in to outside of the axel.

So is there a reason for this? The tractor was bought from a farm in southern Wisconsin. The front is the standard tricycle type setup. The long axles are kind of a pain because I can't get close to the fence posts with the 5' bush hog.

What kind of a goof would go and torch a set of rare optional axles shorter ?

The same kind of goof that would torch the axels on an Oliver 660 which itself is rare and even more rare with long axels. Or the fellow that was going to chop up a set of like new 30/40 series fenders for an open station platform to fit a 2950, don’t worry, we traded the correct fenders for him and they are now safe.

Come on, I was kidding. I would never do that.

I guess only solution is swapping axles with someone interested. But even rare, I am pretty sure that they would stay on there forever.
THe 620-630 120" axles that was talked about above would be very neat with duals at 60'' and 120'' on cast iron rims like the 5020 tractors and a 4 rows front mounted cultivator.
