38 Unstyled G Fan

Working on a Unstyled early G with the rubber mounted fan and the rubber has come loose from the mounting hub on the shaft.
Any ideas on a way to fix this or has anyone else seen this problem. Thanks for any help.

Those rubber mounted fans have been causing trouble since the 40s, the fan comes loose from the rubber hub and goes through the radiator. Many tractors have been fixed over the years, I think at one time Deere even offered a conversion kit to change the fan to the friction drive that is found on pretty much all two-cylinders from the early 40s to end of production. To fix the tractor you have, your best bet would be to go to a salvage yard and get a fan and friction drive off a later G. You will need a fan, 2 drive hubs, 2 friction disks, spring, pulley, retainers, and possibly seal and bearings for the fan shaft. Keep in mind it is not recommended to replace the entire fan shaft assembly as the governor and fan bevel gear are a matched set and set with a shim pack. If you went this route you could swap the fan gears and re-shim the fan to governor gear backlash. It may also be a good idea to replace the bearings and seals in the fan shaft regardless if you use you old fan shaft or a used one from a parts tractor. Sorry I do not have a specific parts list or diagram available, hopefully someone can chime in and add to that.
